Worn-in, Not Worn-out

Your Best Clothes Are the Ones Already in Your Closet
According to Business Waste, 92 million tons of textile waste, made up of old clothes, towels, and other fabric products, are produced each year1. It reports that of the billions of clothing items circulating in the world, more than half end up in landfills; about a quarter of clothing waste is incinerated. The fast fashion industry alone accounts for about 10% of CO2 emissions alone, which does not even account for emissions produced by other garments sitting in landfills.
As an end consumer, this can feel pretty demoralizing, especially when it seems that the only way to get clothing for an affordable price means supporting the production of waste. However, there are things that you can do to prevent clothes from ending up in garbage heaps. And a great place to start is your own closet! The best way to keep clothes out of landfills is to wear the ones already in your wardrobe.
Canva and Affinity have a range of tools that can help you discover new ways to evolve your style, without ever getting new clothes. Here are just a couple to get you started.
New to Affinity and Canva?
Make a Moodboard

When your personal style is so dialed in, it can be tough to break out of it, but a moodboard can be a great way to see your clothes in a new light. Hop into Canva or Affinity, whichever suits your fancy. For the novice, a template makes it simple to get started, but design veterans might be more comfortable freestyling it. Import photos of your clothes and get designing!
Giving yourself a creative restraint–creating outfits for a different genre/style, or committing to a new color palette–is a great way to get out of a creative rut and see your clothes in a new way. Arranging your clothes digitally can help you see how they could be repurposed into something entirely new.
Create an Inspiration Album
Sometimes, you need to copy and learn from the experts, and an inspiration album is a great way to do so. Making an album of your favorite designers, stylists, and creators is a fantastic way to get styling tips and find new references. Canva and Affinity make it easy to resize your album’s canvas as you amass images.
Unlike a moodboard, these albums mainly focus on external inspirations that help to inform your own stylistic choices. Don’t focus on finding outfits that you can exactly recreate one-to-one. Find small details that you can add to your repertoire and apply to your own wardrobe.

Your style is worth a thousand words.
But here are some search terms to get your inspo album started.
